Muncie Symphony Orchestra’s Season Finale Concert features two young pianists, winners of the 2016 MSO Young Artist Competition

Rebekah Rexroth, piano, Senior Division

Rebekah Rexroth is the youngest of eight musical children. She grew up in Auburn Indiana in a house continuously filled with music and knew that she too would get to play an instrument once her hands grew big enough. She began flute lessons when she was four years old and the following year she began piano lessons. Rebekah has fallen in love with both of her instruments and feels blessed to be studying flute with Patricia Reeves and piano with Dawn Hopkins. She began competing on piano when she was in eighth grade, and through many competitions, Rebekah has realized that she loves sharing music with people. Performing is one of her passions. Rebekah is currently eighteen years old and is looking forward to what the world of music has to o er in the future. Two years ago she began teaching piano lessons, and she looks forward to them every week. She also enjoys teaching dance, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.

Grace Tubbs, piano, Junior Division

Grace Tubbs has been studying piano for nine years and has thoroughly enjoyed it. As early as two years old, she would sit at the piano and play her own little melodies, and then at age five, began taking formal lessons with Mrs. Irina Gorin of Carmel. This opened up the wonderful world of classical music to her is truly something she loves, the piano being what she is especially drawn to. Often you will find her at the piano, outside of her daily practice time, playing just to play ~ a new piece, a past piece, a piece she hopes to play in the future, a hymn. She has had the opportunity to play in many venues such as recitals, competitions, masterclasses and her church. She has also had the privilege to study abroad in two different summer piano camps, enriching her musical education immensely. In addition to Grace’s piano study, she participates in ballet, choir and 4-H. Her other interests include hiking, reading, knitting, baking, and crafts of all kinds. Grace is in the 9th grade, homeschooled, the third of four children, and lives in Bloomington with her family. Her favorite times are those spent all together. Grace wants to sincerely thank Ball State University and Muncie Symphony Orchestra for giving her the honor of performing in tonight’s concert.
